How Does ORP Work?

An ORP sensor measures the water's electrical potential to oxidize (destroy contaminants) or reduce (convert harmful substances into harmless ones). Higher readings indicate better sanitation.

What Affects ORP?

ORP is affected by pH levels, chlorine concentration, temperature, and total dissolved solids (TDS). Each of these can increase or decrease the ORP value, impacting water quality.

Ideal ORP Levels

For effective sanitization, ORP should be between 650 to 750 mV, but this can vary based on local pool standards and conditions.

Note: While ORP is an excellent indicator of a pool’s sanitizing power, it’s important to understand that the sensor does not measure chlorine levels directly. ORP reflects the activity and efficacy of the chlorine present in the water, which means a pool could have a high chlorine concentration but a low ORP if the chlorine is not effective in sanitization.
